Romantic Chair Swag

Romantic Chair Swag

The soft shades of this vintage style arrangement create a feeling of romance. Clusters of old fashioned flowers are accented with sprigs of ivy and a bow flourish. Not only is the decoration beautiful in itself, it's functional, too.

Make a swag for each end chair on the aisle to mark off the rows reserved for family and members of the ceremony. Tie long tails of satin ribbon across the aisle before your guests arrive. Then cut the ribbons as members of the family and bridal party enter to take their seats.

Here are the materials you will need to make one romantic chair swag:

• one stem of purple hyd rangea
• one stem of lilac garden rose
• one stem of blue delphinium
• one stem of viburnum
• 18" (45.5 cm) length of decorative sheer purple ribbon
• four 12" (30.5 cm) lengths of ivy
• floral wire
• floral snips

STEP 1. Gather the flowers to make a small bouquet. Cut the stems to equal length about 6" (15 cm). Arrange the flowers so that all of the blooms are visible on one side of the bouquet. Wrap the stems together with wire.
STEP 2. Form a bow by looping the sheer ribbon several times. Wrap the base of the loops with wire to secure them.
STEP 3. Arrange the ivy tendrils in a crisscross pattern to form a star shape. Be sure the ends splay to create interest and to give the arrangement a wide base. Wrap the tendrils together with wire.

STEP 4. Attach the swag to the chair with a strong, covered wire. If any wire shows, simply make a small bow to conceal it. Or, you can tie the swag on with a wide, strong ribbon or a decorative cord. Be sure to choose a section of the chair that will hold the swag in place securely for example, through a rail or slat.
