Save the Date Decoupage Votive

Find a surprise in the mailbox. Here’s a sweet and sendable trinket to announce your wedding day. These votives will fit easily into small mailing tubes.

Remember to check the postage of each votive before mailing. This project is not only a terrific gift to receive but ¡s also fun to make. Gather your girlfriends together, serve some cocktails and snacks, and have yourself a découpage craft night. Choose scented candles for an extra sensory surprise.

Here are the materials you will need to make one save-the-date decoupage votive:

• paper, in color of your choice, for announcement
• assorted scrapbooking papers or other decorative papers
• scissors
• small glass votive
• découpage glue
• small paintbrush

STEP 1. Print your save-the-date information onto colored paper with a computer.
STEP 2. Cut assorted colors of paper into different-size strips, all 1/2” (1.3 cm) wide and ranging from 1” to 3” (2.5 to 7.5 cm) in length.
STEP 3. Paint a layer of the découpage glue onto a small area of the votive.
STEP 4. Stick a strip of decorative paper onto the glue. Paint more glue onto the strip of paper until it is saturated.

STEP 5. Continue gluing strips of paper, alternating sizes, onto the votive, overlapping the strips slightly.
STEP 6. After you have covered the entire votive with decorative paper strips, place the strip of paper with the save-the-date information on the center of the votive and cover with glue.
STEP 7. Paint a final layer of glue over the entire votive, making sure all the paper is saturated. Let the decoupage dry overnight before packaging it up to send.
