How to Make Cocktail Stirrers

Cocktail Stirrers

Weddings stir up sweet emotions but why not stir up some fun, too? These personalized cocktail stirrers will spice up every beverage.

Design a signature cocktail to serve at the reception. Think of something fresh and easy that goes with your decor or theme. If pink is your color, add a splash of grenadine. Are you planning a summer event? Rum based mojitos are easy to serve and always a big hit. Add your one of a kind stirrers, and you’ll give your guests something to admire as they’re sipping their fabulous beverages.

Here are the materials you will need to make approximately 100 cocktail stirrers:

• computer printable mailing labels, a bout 1” x 2 5/8” (2.5 x 6.5 cm)
• one package of wooden skewers (50 count)
• two sheets of small patterned scrapbooking paper, 8 1/2” X 11” (21.5 x 28 cm)
• scissors or snips
• double stick tape
• pinking shears

STEP 1. Print as many monograms as will fit on each label, in the color of your choice. (We used 1” x 2 5/8” [2.5 x 6.5 cm] off white labels and fit six monograms in 20 point font on each label.) Cut out all the monograms to make individual stickers.
STEP 2. Cut the skewers in half with sturdy kitchen scissors or garden snips. Or trim the length of the skewer to fit a shorter glass, if preferred.
STEP 3. Cut one hundred 1" x 2.5" (2.5 x 6.5 cm) strips from the sheets of patterned paper with the scissors or snips.
STEP 4. Fold a strip of patterned paper in half. Adhere a strip of double sided tape to the underside of the patterned paper. Place a skewer into the fold of the paper. Press together the two taped halves to make a small flag.

STEP 5. Peel the back off one of the monogram stickers. Adhere it to the center of the flag. Add another monogram to the other side.
STEP 6. With pinking shears, trim the flag to make a neat and decorative edge.

Reminders:
Make a sample stirrer to make sure you have a good length for your glass. If the stirrer is too long, it’s easy to trim it later to make it shorter but if it’s too short, you’ll have to start again.
