How to Make Petal Toss Cone

Petal Toss Cone

At one time, people tossed rice at the bride and groom, symbolizing their wishes for the couple’s good luck and prosperity in the marriage. Your guests can take part ¡n this longtime wedding tradition by gently showering the happy couple with rose petals from these sweet and simple cones. You could also fill the cones with fresh lavender flowers or birdseed if you’d prefer. All are eco friendly. No matter which you choose, you’ll leave behind traces of a beautiful and lasting memory.

Here are the materials you will need to make one petal toss cone:

• white paper doily, 10” x 14 1/2” (25.5 x 37 cm)
• vellum paper, 8 1/2” x 11” (21.5 x 28 cm)
• small stapler
• length of ribbon, in width and color of your choice
• fresh flower petals, dried flowers, or birdseed

STEP 1. Lay the vellum paper on top of the doily.
STEP 2. Starting at one corner, roll the two paper sheets at the same time to begin to form a cone.
STEP 3. Staple the bottom of the partial cone to hold it securely in place.
STEP 4. Continue rolling the paper until you have rolled it all and formed a large cone.
STEP 5. Staple the overlapping layers of the doily at the top of the cone close to the corner to hold the cone securely.

STEP 6. Tie your ribbon loosely around the cone to form a bow. Position the bow so it hides the top staple.
STEP 7. Fill the cones with fresh flower petals, dried flowers, or birdseed your choice!

Reminders
Store fresh flower petals in the refrigerator to keep them fresh and fill the cones on the day of the wedding.
