Flower Girl Basket

Flower Girl Basket

As dainty as the little one carrying it, a flower girl basket should have a personality all its own. This basket is feather-light, and the handle gives little hands something to hold on to in case of stage frigh!

For a winter wedding, cover the basket with deep-red anemone blossoms and wrap the handle with red velvet ribbon. For autumn, choose chrysanthemums in a rainbow of colors, paired with a bit of foliage or berries. Orchid blossoms are ideal for a tropical summer look.

Here are the materials you will need to make one flower girl basket:

• five hydrangea heads in soft green and pink tones
• one small, unfinished basket
• 1 yd. (1 m) of decorative ribbon
• hot-glue gun and glue sticks
• scissors

STEP 1. Remove all the blossoms from the hydrangeas. Cut off any traces of the plastic stems at the base of the blossoms.
STEP 2. Working with the glue gun, glue individual blossoms to the sides of the basket. Layer the blossoms so the surface of the basket ¡s completely covered. Let the glue set.
STEP 3. Place one end of ribbon flat along the inside of one end of the handle. Hot-glue the ribbon end in place.

STEP 4. Wrap the ribbon around the handle, holding ¡t taut as you go. Layer the ribbon wraps so that just the ends overlap, to create a smooth surface on the wrapped handle. Continue wrapping until the entire handle is covered.
STEP 5. Cut the ribbon from the spool and glue the end ¡n place at the base of the handle.
